Self Published Poem

PERFECTION

Is it real?

Is it possible?

Yes, but is it probable?

Some say they've achieved it

But come on you have to admit

How can you pursue perfection

While you lack the connection

Required for a faultless life

That is otherwise riddled with strife

To self-publish my poem, I thought of posting it on social media like everybody else, but I thought that i would give people a break as they already had news feeds full self-published poems. Therefore, I thought I would take a more personal approach and try to give my poem to people I know will actually read it and give me feedback. I thought of going up to their doors, or approaching them around campus, but i felt like that would be intrusive and they could be busy or in a hurry. Hence, I decided to put my poem into their mailboxes so they could read them at their leisure.

When i got to the neighborhood mailboxes, i realized that many of the mailboxes had a little sticker saying "No junk mail please." However, I hoped for the best that they would not perceive my poem as junk and I sneaked it in through the side. With that done, i had targeted about 30 family households with an average 3 people per home which sums up to about 90 people. However, I wanted to target at least 100 people and not everyone in each household would read the poem that was on a little piece of paper. I then decided i should go to a different area with people I am not as familiar with to prop my poem under their wiper blade in hopes that they would see it sooner or later. i did this to about 20 vehicles and luckily experienced no set off of alarms.

I feel like this was an effective way to publish my poem and receive feedback from it as i left my name on the bottom of the poem for those that know me in my neighborhood so they can approach me anytime and give me some feedback; whether it be good or bad.

Do Seek Their Meat From God

The title in Roberts' short story "Do Seek Their Meat from God," is derived from Psalm 104:21 "the young lions roar after their prey, and seek their meat from god." In the context of this story, the cougars seek what they want and when they think it is within reach (the crying child), they dash for it. However, they didn't actually pray to god for it. They wanted it it but didn't seek it from and pray to god for it so they didn't end up getting what they wanted. To seek it from god and pray for it is the way you earn it, so in their case, they didn't earn/deserve it which is why they didn't get it. A good example of seeking god's aid and praying for help to deserve what you desire is the little boy that was alone in the cabin. While in despair, he took the time to speak/try to speak to god and ask him for help in his time of need. In stopping and taking the time to seek help from god, the little boy earned god's help in the form of the man saving him.
